FIRST FORD TO PACE NASCAR SEASON OPENER IN 40 YEARS

2011 MUSTANG GT NAMED DAYTONA 500 PACE CAR

FIRST FORD TO PACE NASCAR SEASON OPENER IN 40 YEARS

Dearborn, Mich. — For the first time ever, American’s favorite muscle car will pace The Great American Race

For the first time in 40 years, a Ford Motor Company car will be pacing the field for the NASCAR season-opening Daytona 500 when the 2011 Mustang GT, powered by the all-new 5.0-liter V-8 engine, officially starts the race on Feb. 14 at Daytona International Speedway.

“Having the opportunity to pace America’s biggest auto race with a Ford icon like the 2011 Mustang GT is truly an honor,” said Jamie Allison, director, Ford North America Motorsports. “And to have the new 5.0-liter engine powering the car will be a great way to demonstrate its power and class-leading fuel economy.”

FPR does it in threes

Rod Nash Racing (RNR) and sponsor The Bottle-O will shift alliances in 2010, running a Falcon V8 Supercar with Ford Performance Racing (FPR).

RNR’s move will see FPR expand to a three-car team, and while a driver for The Bottle-O Falcon is not locked in, it is has been confirmed all three cars will operate from FPR’s factory in Campbellfield, Melbourne and be positioned together in pitlane.

Edwards will remain Team Principal for the two FPR licences and Rod Nash remains Team Principal for RNR’s licence.

RNR’s partnership with FPR runs for three years and The Bottle-O has extended its sponsorship with the RNR entry for an extra year so that it runs for the same length of time.

The deal is a major coup for Rod Nash Racing, which debuted in V8 Supercars in 1998 and in recent years has run a Walkinshaw-prepared Commodore.
